At the first sump
we came to along this branch, we saw this chiselled picture of a camel, if you
look closely, there is a person leading it with a turban and a figure riding
it. Underneath it, is the name of a single humped camel 'Dromedary'. It looks
like this was done by H. Spott in 1794. Around the camel is also a sort of
cross hatching which looks like it could be depicting hills or mountains. Where
a mine worker would have seen a camel leads to some speculation, a zoo, in a
book, or possibly he may have been involved in some military campaign in Africa
or the Middle East? |
