This shaft is near the Smallcleugh Mine entrance. If looking at the entrance it is located to the left and above, near the water way which leads to the dam. The shaft is walled and grilled with a 50m drop.

Update 04/11/10 - this shaft intersects the flats in Carr's Level. It is the Hangingshaw Engine Whimsey.
