Equipment Used:
For mine
exploration we use an assortment of equipment: full SRT rig (single rope
technique), wellies, wetsocks, wetsuit, undersuit fleece, oversuit (waterproof
or cotton), tackle bags, helmet, lighting, karabiners, hangers, bolts, slings,
ropes and ladders.
SRT Rig - a set of equipment used
for mechanically climbing up ropes and for abseiling. Normally consists of sit
and chest harnesses, foot loops, cow tails, stop descender, croll chest, hand
and foot jammer ascenders.
Ropes
(all static) - used for climbing (prussuking) up, abseiling and life
lining.
Karabiners - used for attaching to ropes or other items, slings -
great for tieing round something and then using as an anchor, shunts - self
protection devices for when abseiling or prussuking.
Wire
ladders - sometimes its easier to use these ladders instead of abseiling or
climbing, especially in confined spaces or small pitches.
A lot of
aluminium scaffold poles - which are always a joy to carry around - handy for
putting across a shaft to anchor to or for may poling (using the pole to climb
up a rise).
Bolts and
Hangers - drill a hole, put your bolt in and then attach a hanger, one anchor
served up. |
